Umbria Hidden Italy – Off the Beaten Track
Head for the UNESCO hilltop town of Spoleto, nestled in the foothills of the Apennine Mountains in the province of
Umbria. Our hotel, the Hotel Dei Ducci, lies in the heart of this hidden gem enabling us to explore its medieval centre,
whilst making it the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area. We visit Siena, a beautifully preserved city
surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, best known for the dramatic the Piazza del Campo.
We take the opportunity to relax and enjoy Spoleto or explore the Roman Theatre and Piazza del Mercato, taking
you back in time to the 1st century BC. The Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta towers above the town and contains
numerous masterpieces, whilst the nearby Ponte delle Torri, a monumental viaduct, offers gorgeous panoramic views
of the rich vegetation in the surrounding valleys and hills. We visit the town of Assisi, birthplace and pilgrimage site
of the famed St Francis of Assisi. The awe-inspiring Basilica of St. Francis was consecrated in 1253 and portrays the
incredible life of St. Francis and his lasting legacy. Its crypt houses the saint9s stone sarcophagus.
We visit the beautiful medieval, hilltop town of Orvieto with its stunning Duomo façade. We have time to explore
followed by an amazing multi-course lunch at the family run Bruno9s Trattoria before returning for our last night in
Spoleto.
