Fred Olsen Cruises have timed this early autumn
sailing to coincide with the renowned fruit
harvest in the Hardanger region, often referred
to as 8The Orchard of Norway9. During your call
into Ulvik, you9ll have the chance to sample the
seasonal produce of the local fruit farms,
including apple juice and cider. Elsewhere, you
can witness remarkable scenery, from the
Briksdal Glacier to the waterfalls of Langfoss
and the Seven Sisters, and uncover Viking
history, especially on a tour from Ålesund to the
islands of Giske – the birthplace of Chief Rollo –
and Godøy. Borealis will make a special
diversion along Lysefjord which is only
accessible to smaller ships, rounding off your
journey in style.
You9ll begin your sailing with a sojourn in the
fascinating Viking-esque city of Haugesund,
where Norway9s first king had his seat. Bergen
is bound to captivate you with its colourful
wooden houses, before you arrive in Flam – the
gateway to the most famous fjords. From here
you will cruise down the Sognefjord, Norway9s
largest (204km) and deepest (1308m) fjord, and
the Aurlandsfjord. A visit to Eidfjord will take
you down the Hardangerfjord, and sailing
toward Stavanger will bring you to the huge
Boknafjord for breathtaking views. You9ll then
stop at Kristiansand and the iconic city of Oslo
to cruise the Oslofjord.
Sailing from Newcastle you9ll head to two of
Europe9s must-see cities via Scotland9s historic
Dundee. Amsterdam is certainly not short of
sights and bites, with countless fascinating
museums and restaurants to experience. Take a
stroll around the renowned canals, or simply
relax in a café and watch the world go by. You9ll
then sail to Belgium9s Antwerp, a hidden gem
full of character. Its medieval streets,
Renaissance architecture and bustling city
centre will captivate you, and sailing down the
River Scheldt will introduce you to the city9s
sights.
